Fort Robinson, Nebraska:  Frontier Fort

Fort Robinson, Nebraska was one of the largest forts in the United States at the turn of the nineteenth century.  Home to one of the frontier armies of the United States, Fort Robinson served as an important outpost in the west and today stands as a state park in Nebraska.

Fort Robinson was originally built as a camp for the U.S. military.  This camp monitored the Red Cloud Indian Agency.  The Fort Laramie Treaty of 1868 stipulated that Indian agencies would be set up to provide for the needs of the Native Americans. These Indian Agencies served as forerunners to the modern day Indian Reservations.
